To keep our community informed regarding ongoing maintenance activities the Lake Management subcommittee is pleased to share the following update.

Starting August 1, 2020, Solitude Lake Management now provides pond maintenance to the following 4 sites shown below 2x per month:

and provides visual inspection of the pond(s) which include the following:

  • Water levels
  • Water clarity or quality
  • Turbidity
  • Beneficial Aquatic Vegetation
  • Nuisance, Invasive, or Exotic Aquatic Vegetation
  • Algae
  • Erosion
  • Vegetated buffers
  • Sedimentation
  • Nuisance animal activity
  • Fish habitat
  • Mosquito breeding conditions and habitat

In January of 2021, Solitude began collecting water samples in both lakes as part of Twin Lakes of Brandon’s participation in the Florida LAKEWATCH program which will provide valuable reports to help our community proactively address any issues that may be detected.

In addition, as identified in the 2020 Reserve Study performed for the Community, the Committee is also researching grant and other opportunities that may be available to address upcoming expenses related to erosion of the shorelines.

Since these shorelines are steep, recommendations include planting of natural vegetation and/or using stone to form a foundation for a breakwater.  It has been recommended that by 2030 $47,037 will need to be spent to address the shorelines.
